Spanish Market

Santa Fe will play host to the 56th annual Spanish Market this weekend! The market will be held on the plaza July 28 & 29. The market is tremendously popular with both visitors and locals, and features the art of over 250 local Hispanic artists.

The art forms that you will find at the market include:
  • Santos - depictions of religious figures in the forms of bultos (carvings in the round), retablos (paintings on wooden panels), and gesso and wood relief-carved panels.
  • Hide Paintings - religious images painted on deer or elk hide
  • Straw Appliqué - crosses, chests and boxes decorated with applied straw
  • Textiles - hand-woven on looms using handspun yarns
  • Furniture - usually made from pine using mortise and tenon joints
  • Colcha - unique regional embroideries employing the colcha stitch
  • Tinwork - decorative and utilitarian objects of cut and punched tin
  • Ironwork - tools, fastenings, and household objects forged from iron
  • Precious Metals - silver or gold jewelry, utilitarian and devotional objects
  • Pottery - hand-sculpted bowls, pots, and other ware made from micaceous clay
  • Bonework - decorative items, anillos (rings) and tool handles carved from bones
  • Ramilletes - decorative paper garlands
  • Basketry - baskets handwoven from red and brown river willow
Make sure you get there early for the best selection!

Josh's BBQ

We just got takeout from, Josh's Barbecue, Santa Fe's newest BBQ restaurant. It's located on the south side of town next to the Regal new movie theater and Lowes. Have to say that we were very impressed. We sampled the brisket, smoked turkey, sausage, and ribs. They were all very good, as was the health serving of sauce that was included. Santa Fe has never had much of a BBQ presence, but that is starting to change. Now we have Josh's and the Whole Hog Cafe. Let's hope the Josh is able to get the traffic through his place so he can keep serving up smoky goodness!

New Listing: 25 Acre Horse or Estate Property

I have just listed a piece of amazing property! This listing presents are opportunity for a lucky person to own one of the last remaining large parcels of land close to Santa Fe. This fantastic piece of property offers panoramic mountain views and wide open spaces making the nicely treed lot a perfect setting for your horse or estate property. There are two excellent building sites, one a bit more exposed and the other more sheltered. A shared well is in place, and there is a strong possibility that the lot can be split into two 12.5 acre tracts.

Please call or e-mail me today to see this great piece of land.

Also, like with all of my listings, a web site for the property was professionally built, and is available at www.LamyLand.com.

International Folk Art Market

The 4th annual International Folk Art Market is just about to kick off. This amazing event brings together hundreds of artists from around the world and showcases their amazing work! I'm lucky enough to live just across the arroyo from the festival and I've been watching them set up shop all week. If you are in town, please make a point to go to the market - you'll be amazed and impressed with the variety of offerings.
